Our water is low in sodium, and it’s free of contaminants. Which means it’s very good water.

PLASTIC-FREE?
Thalus is a local start-up, based in Luxembourg, that specializes in good water. We know pollutant-free water is important for health, and we also know that plastic stinks and so does carbon pollution.
WATER IN
A BOX.
NOT PERFECT,
BUT BETTER.
We use Tetra Pak to package our water. It’s not perfect, but it’s better. A plastic bottle requires up to 5 times more water than Tetra Pak just to manufacture it. The carbon footprint of Tetra Pak is less than half that of plastic. And Tetra Pak is mostly made from paper, a recyclable resource.
Plastic is useful for lots of stuff. But it’s awful for the environment because it takes 450 years to break down. That’s a long time. You know who was alive 450 years ago? William Shakespeare. Plastic also poisons the oceans, and yet a million plastic bottles are sold every minute.*

10 STEPS THALUS IS TAKING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY
SUPPLY CHAIN
We try really hard to limit our transport needs and keep our carbon footprint small. That’s why we maintain a geographically compact logistics network.
PRODUCTION
Our production process runs mainly on green electricity, and we ensure sustainable production patterns which have been tested and approved by the demanding International Food Standard (IFS). Cool, right?
TRANSPORTATION
Efficient transportation is important to us. Thanks to the shape of our containers, the amount of water we can carry in a single truckload is ten times more than if we used standard bottles. Furthermore, the light weight of our packaging helps to reduce fuel usage during transportation, minimizing our carbon footprint. Also, we try hard not to dispatch empty trucks. When we have a small order, we try to share the extra space for other goods, and when the truck heads back, we do the same.
STORAGE
Our packaging allows for maximum space efficiency in storage facilities. We use less electricity for lighting and heating our warehouses.
SUPPLIERS
As we've grown, we have partnered up with more suppliers. Right now we have two certified suppliers that guarantee a very high quality of water and protect their local environment.
Most of our water comes from an organic-certified and regional German family business that supports local ecological agriculture. Most of the warehouse transport equipment has electric motors, and the company’s fleet is made exclusively of modern vehicles that adhere to Euro 6 – the strictest emission standard.
WATER
Our water is sustainably sourced and properly boxed to ensure minimum energy use. The whole process is executed with care and respect for the environment.
PACKAGING
We value our raw materials and therefore use mostly bio-based plastic and FSC-certified packaging. Our caps are even made from sugarcane.
RECYCLING
Our boxes are not single-use. Refill them! They are perfect to hold tap water, which can be pretty good in Luxembourg. After that, recycle them! Luxembourg distributes and picks up the light-blue Valorlux bags for free. See how you can easily get them from your commune.
SOCIAL INNOVATION
We are proud to be a Luxembourgish company, and we think it’s cool to be socially responsible. So we support local businesses, organizations, and clubs by organizing, participating in, and donating to regional events and drives. Some of the biggest recipients of our efforts are CARE Luxembourg, which fights to alleviate poverty, and Stëmm von der Strooss, which works for the social and professional integration of disadvantaged people in Luxembourg. We also support local health, education, and social initiatives, and we also give away our product to certain worthy organizations.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
We are all about sustainability. We aim to fulfil our responsibility towards the community and environment by focusing on two UN Sustainable Development Goals: Responsible Consumption and Production (no. 12) and Climate Action (no. 13). We try to engage the circular economy at every possible step, and when possible, we always go for the most eco-friendly innovations.
