Okay, but
what about …

WHY BUY WATER WHEN TAP WATER IN LUXEMBOURG ISN'T BAD?

Sure, tap water in Luxembourg can be quite alright, but Thalus water is pure and delicious, full of just the right balance of minerals that join the water on its journey from deep in the Earth to the source. And hey, sometimes you need water on the go.

SHOULDN’T I STICK WITH THE SAME PLASTIC BOTTLED WATER BRANDS I’VE BEEN BUYING FOR YEARS?

Just so you know, 400 million tons of plastic waste is produced every year.* A single plastic bottle takes 450 years to break down. And plastic can only be recycled very few times. You’ve heard about microplastics pollution, right – tiny plastic particles that are showing up everywhere? Plastic makes our heads spin.

WHY IS YOUR PRODUCT MUCH BETTER? YOUR BOXES ARE TETRA PAK. WON'T THOSE JUST END UP IN A LANDFILL?

Good point. We hope people will re-use them. In fact, please re-use them. Tetra Pak is also recyclable. In Luxembourg, you can include it with other recyclables in your light-blue Valorlux bags. And even if you do throw it away, Tetra Pak is not nearly as bad for the environment as plastic.

WHY ARE YOUR BOXES ANY BETTER? WON'T THOSE JUST END UP IN A LANDFILL?

Our boxes are made from Tetra Pak, and they are reusable. (Hint: reuse them!) True, Tetra Pak isn't perfect, but it's better. As a recyclable material, in Luxembourg you can include it with other recyclables in your light-blue Valorlux bags. And even if you do throw it away, Tetra Pak waste is still better for the environment than plastic waste. Most of the packaging is paper-based, and our caps are mostly made from sugarcane

DOESN'T IT TAKE ENERGY AND RESOURCES TO MAKE TETRA PAK?

Yeah, but the carbon footprint of Tetra Pak is less than half that of plastic. And Tetra Pak is mostly made from paper, a renewable resource. Also, a plastic bottle requires up to 5 times more water just to manufacture it

WAIT, AREN'T GLASS BOTTLES THE MOST ECOLOGICAL WAY TO GO?

Glass can be a good option too, but have you ever carried a case of six 1-liter glass bottles of water up some stairs? Glass is heavy and transporting it from the bottle manufacturer, to the water factory, to the shop, to the consumer, and possibly back to the shop or a recycling facility creates a huge carbon footprint.

SO, WHY ARE YOU DOING ALL THIS?

It’s simple. We want to reduce plastic waste and encourage consumers to live more sustainably by recycling our boxes. We also want to strengthen local communities that help one another. We do that by supporting local clubs and organizations and by helping with the planning and financing of regional events and community-oriented social endeavors.
